About the Contest

Is the condition of your "smile" holding you back? At Cary Family Dental, we believe there's nothing worse than hiding a beautiful smile. That's why we've teamed up with Cary Magazine to sponsor the 2010 Cary Smile Makeover contest.

Share Your Story
We're asking those women of Western Wake County in North Carolina that want a better smile to tell us their story. How has the condition of your smile affected your life? What do you avoid doing as a result of the condition of your teeth? Share your story with us. If your story is the most compelling and your dental needs meet some basic requirements, then your story will be included among the Top 10 finalists eligible for public vote. If you draw the highest number of votes, then Cary Family Dental will provide a FREE smile makeover! Additionally, the winner will be featured in an upcoming issue of Cary Magazine! For more information see contest rules and deadlines.

About Dr. Acton, DDS

Dr. ActonDr. Allan Acton opened Cary Family Dental in 2003 and since that time, has become one of the Triangle's most accomplished and trusted dentists. He is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia and completed his advanced dental education residency at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.

In November 2007, Dr. Acton completed 216 hours of continued education in a nine-month implant continuum taught by the Triangle Dental Institute in Research Triangle Park, N.C. His training included lectures, workshops and one-on-one mentoring on implant surgical placement and restoration, associated bone preservation and ridge augmentation grafting and connective tissue grafting.

In 2008, Dr. Acton graduated with honors from The Hornbrook Group's distinguished national training program and completed training on the DuraTHIN veneer. Dr. Acton is currently only one of four dentists in the state certified to provide DuraTHIN veneers and the only dentist certified in the Triangle and central North Carolina area. That same year, Dr. Acton was voted "Best Cosmetic Dentist" in Western Wake County by Cary Magazine readers and repeated the distinction for the second consecutive year in 2009.

Most recently, Dr. Acton received a Fellowship Award from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. The ICOI was founded in 1972 and has 12,000 members worldwide in 89 countries. It is the world's largest dental implant organization, as well as the world's largest provider of continuing dental implant education and currently has 2,582 active fellows in the United States. The awarding of fellowship status is one of the highest honors a professional society, such as the ICOI, can bestow on a dental professional involved in oral implantology. Nominees achieve fellowship status through their efforts in education, research and clinical experiences.

Dr. Acton and Cary Family Dental are also committed to their community. Together, they have raised more than $32,000 for the Smiles for Life campaign, an annual four-month campaign sponsored by the Crown Council that raises money to help children facing serious health and educational problems. The practice also provides free dental health presentations to local preschools and elementary schools in order to teach children the basics of proper dental care.
